League of Legends is a MOBA game that stands for Mobile Online Battle Arena. It’s pretty well-known game in the past few years, second to DotA 2. Mobile Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games is a game where it has 2 teams or more battling each other in some related maps to destroy their opponent’s bases. The game was pretty well-known among the gamers, and being the most played custom map in Warcraft 3. Seeing this phenomenon, the developer of the map made the genre of this game, and it’s called MOBA as we know nowadays.

Basically MOBA games is introduced from a custom map in Warcraft 3 that had a name “Defence of the Ancient”, in short DotA. The maps is consist of Top lane, Middle lane, and Bottom Lane. Each lane has some kind of soldiers (or in the DotA they called “Creeps” and in LoL they called “Minions”) that spawned every 30 seconds to help you pushed the lane to the opponent’s base. There’s a jungle too if you want extra gold from neutral monsters. That’s the basic in the MOBA games that every MOBA game now followed.

League of Legends is different from DotA, although some people claimed that LoL (League of Legends in short) is copying the DotA elements. League of Legends has it’s own aesthetic in graphics and maps. It’s a bit cartoony but well-detailed, from his foot until his head. And if DotA called his playable characters as “Hero”, in LoL they called as “Champions”. The other differences between DotA and LoL is their own playable characters. In DotA all of them are free to play, that means you don’t need to buy anything to play the characters you like. When in LoL all of them is pay to play, that means you need to buy it before you can play it. But this is where LoL is interesting, because you can focus on the Champions you owned and master it before change or buy the other Champions.

The game mechanics in LoL is different too from DotA, and that makes LoL pretty unique. All of the Champions are already has it’s own role, and you cant random pick the champions and the lanes if you want your team wins. For the example, there’s tanker that tanks your teammate in team battle, Assassins the one that kills the enemy champions from behind or make a surprise attack, etc. LoL too has a rune system that can helps your champions from the start of the game without buying items first. And there’s a spell, an additional skills that helps you in various situations, from healing your teammate until gives you shield for a short time.

LoL has a big tournament from all over the world, even it has it’s own world championship. It happens every year in different countries. So many player from all over the world joined in this tournament to win a huge prize pool. According to lol.gamepedia.com, the total prize pool in this tournament is $6.700.000 USD. No wonder the pro players from all over the world wants to join this tournament. The audiences is crazy too, they’re from every continents in the world just to watch their favourites players or teams play to win.
